ABOUT FELTED AND FLEECED
Read MoreWelcome to Felted and Fleeced!
"Felted and Fleeced" is located in Nova Scotia, Canada. Nova Scotia is a province where the winter can last almost five months and the average snowfall can be nearly 250cm per year. We have lots of cold winter weather, so we need for warm fingers for making snowmen, shoveling endless amounts of snow and participate in outdoor activities.
My obsession with making mittens started after my friend gave me a pair of sweater mittens that he purchased in Mongolia. I was fascinated by them and went on a search on how to make them. I found some instructional websites but in the end, I designed my own patterns and made them with my own mathod and designs. At the end of 2014, I had made so many mittens, I decided to sell them. They sold out within weeks. It is all history from there!
My mitten making begins by finding wool wherever I can. That is half the fun! The material is at least 70% wool (or otherwise indicated) and felted in very hot water and put in a hot dryer. The felting process shrinks and tightens the material to make it denser and warmer. I, then cut out my patterns, assemble, sew and decorate. Some are decorated with buttons, appliqué or remain plain. In the end each one is unique and original.
I hope you enjoy wearing the mittens as much as I enjoyed making them.
Cheers,
Felted and Fleeced
